Artists Against Hunger & Poverty

Artists Against Hunger & Poverty (AAHP) is WHY's program that enlists performing artists to help raise funds and awareness for the most innovative and effective community-based organizations working to combat hunger and poverty. WHY offers artists, record labels, managers, agents and fan clubs an opportunity to take a stand by using their voices and resources effectively — while doing what they already do so well.

Many artists participate by donating concert tickets for premium resale. Others donate autographed memorabilia for auction. Some make contributions on behalf of WHY and local charities from the stage and in the media. And, in 2005, AAHP will kick off a signature benfit concert series in partnership with The Hard Rock Cafe.

WHY's Reinvesting In America (RIA) database is filled with more than 4,500 profiles of grassroots groups doing important, entrepreneurial work to help their clients become and remain self-reliant. WHY's RIA staff has pre-screened many of these groups and knows the high quality of their work.

Here are some of the artists (and fan clubs), managers, agents and record labels who are actively working to combat hunger and poverty: Bruce Springsteen; Aerosmith; Backstreet; ASCAP; Peter, Paul & Mary; B.B. King; Tom Chapin; BMI; Phish; Clarence Clemons; Emmylou Harris; Michael McDonald; Darryl McDaniels; Kenny Rogers; Tom Paxton; Warner Music Group; Black 47; Suzanne Vega; Melissa Etheridge; Natalie Merchant; Pete Townshend; Wyclef Jean; Richie Havens; Chicago; Phoebe Snow; Shania Twain; The Smithereens; Max Weinberg; Steven Van Zandt; Ken Kragen; Carlos Santana; The Moody Blues; Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes; The Bottom Line Records; EMI-Capitol The Right Stuff Records; Jen Chapin; and Harry Belafonte.
